about the artist
Kim’s first business was her craft booth at the Azusa street fair for her “biblioboxes.” She remembers going to the city of industry with her mother to get the business license because at 15 Kim was too young to drive. That same year she performed in the Schoenberg palace on the French horn with her Orchestra, in the concert hall where Mozart and Hayden had their dueling opera; as well as trained for and completed a Los Angeles marathon with her father.
Kim’s undergrad and grad degrees are from Boston University. She moved coasts for BU at 17 to pursue a full scholarship. She completed her undergraduate in mass communication studies from the number one school of communication in the United States. She stayed at BU and obtained a master’s degree that was (similarly) oriented statistics, as well as the social sciences. Her stone collection started while she was in graduate school in Boston. Orbicular agates were her passion at night and on the weekends. She learned to put them on necklaces while in Berkeley/SF working for UC Berkeley (from bead stores on Shattuck and Telegraph).
Kim moved to Brooklyn then New York City soon after Hayes Valley SF and Berkeley never clicked like she’d hoped. Kim loved loved loved New York City but couldn’t afford to get old there happily, working admin. at a law firm then publishing company, still beading. She moved to Palm Beach County to swim at the beach more frequently, she put down roots, and she DOES swim in the salt water very often. (She is proud of the those last two tidbits.) Fun facts about Kim: her Dad is a carpenter like Jesus, her Grandfather worked on the Hubble telescope, and her brother is a jet pilot. Her mom took her to antique stores and thrift stores and the pool for fun growing up. She prefers hound dogs but she owns a frenchie. She feels more comfortable in water than on land.
In 2024 Kim starting working with 18k gold beads to create fine jewelry with her superb vintage and antique stone pendant and bead collection. She took a break from administrative assistance in 2025 to create a body of her best work and to showcase her jewelry making. Her passion for collecting vintage and antique agate / carnelian / onyx / chalcedony pendants and beads (especially symmetrical and orbicular agate) is over 20 years in practice. Kim loves to work with 18k gold beads in her necklaces (between the stones) because 18 karat and higher gold doesn’t tarnish i.e. age. She doesn’t use 24 karat because it is essential that beads keep their shape and 24k is too soft— it warps shape over time.
Kim is creating a fine jewelry line of beaded gold and vintage agate necklaces featuring statement centerpieces because she believes this design line is superior to anything / everything offered on the market. Kim thinks this is the very best possible beaded jewelry, strung on precious metal and using only 18k components. Currently there is an absence of beaded / strung fine jewelry. As she sees it, Kim is filling a void in the market by offering these original pieces to the world. Can you find anything like this anywhere?
